alone - synopsis
Terry is a solitary house painter in 1980s South Florida just drifting through life. More than a decade after his father’s death, he still grieves the absence of the only person he thinks really understood him—and resents his workaholic mother who always seems to wish he were someone he’s not. On Christmas, Terry’s mother hands him a gift—a box of his father’s belongings. Inside Terry discovers an old map with cryptic markings—the remnants of his father’s obsession with the history of a state wilderness park. Dad’s obsession becomes Terry’s own when he uncovers the journals of a long-forgotten naturalist and connects a historic expedition with Dad’s discoveries. On his journey from the swamps of South Florida to ancient burial grounds in Tallahassee, Terry must grapple with a different version of his father than the one he knew as a boy—and attempt to let go of the past so that he can make his own way in the world.
